Former Ohio State Buckeyes and NFL head coach Urban Meyer is joining a new non-profit board.
Meyer, who was fired by the Jacksonville Jaguars mid-way through the 2021 season, is joining the board of THE Foundation, a non-profit aimed at helping Ohio State Buckeyes student-athletes.
THE Foundation will reportedly pay Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball players to work with charities. It’s part of an effort to increase Name, Image and Likeness deals for Buckeyes student-athletes.
“There isn’t a better person to have on the board than Coach Urban Meyer,” Brian Schottenstein, a co-founder, said. “It goes without saying that he’s one of the greatest recruiters of student-athletes and coaches of all time. I appreciate his support and friendship.”
THE Foundation officially announced the news today.
We proudly welcome @CoachUrbanMeyer to our board. Urban has 3 Nat’l Championships on his resume, including the ’14 title w/OSU. He’s recognized as one of the best recruiters in college football history. Urban looks forward to seeing future success for OSU and local charities. pic.twitter.com/UEvRf7eKxf

Meyer, who coached at Ohio State from 2012-18, won a national championship with the Buckeyes in 2014. He retired following a Rose Bowl win and spent some time in television. Meyer then became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, but lasted less than a full season.
There are mixed reviews to Meyer’s latest move.
“No better role model than Urban! Well done!” one fan said sarcastically.
“Leadership and Ethics Chair. Probably,” another fan joked.

Meyer is undoubtedly one of the greatest head coaches in college football history, but lately, he’s been more known for controversy off the field.
Still, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that Meyer’s name still carries weight in Columbus, Ohio.
