Baker Mayfield reportedly wanted out of Cleveland even before they traded for Deshaun Watson. Now that the Browns did make that deal, Mayfield surely will be done with the team.
The question is, where does the former No. 1 pick go next? There doesn’t seem to be much of a market for Mayfield’s services at this point.
According to NFL writer Ben Standig of The Athletic, Mayfield’s next stop was a topic of conversation at Liberty quarterback Malik Willis’ pro day on Tuesday. The Seahawks have looked like a possible fit, but Standig says one executive though Seattle was legitimately committed to Drew Lock, who they acquired in the Russell Wilson trade.
Most concerning for Mayfield–and Browns fans–is the opinion of some others in attendance, which is that Cleveland will have to attach a draft pick to Mayfield in order to make him an attractive trade acquisition.
Baker Mayfield’s future was a popular topic at Willis’s pro day. Nobody had a simple resolution. One executive with another team dismissed Seattle, believing they buy into Drew Lock. Some wondered if Browns get Osweiler’d — having to include a pick with Mayfield. Yikes.

Whatever happens, it is pretty hard to fathom how quickly everything fell apart for Mayfield. After a solid rookie season in 2018, he did struggle in his second campaign, but then bounced back with his best pro season in 2020.
Mayfield also led the Browns to their first playoff win in over 25 years in 2020, but things began trending downward after he first injured his shoulder in Week 2 of the 2021 season. The former Heisman Trophy winner would later suffer another injury to the same shoulder, and his effectiveness was limited the rest of the way.
Mayfield eventually had to shut things down and sit out the final game of the season.
