This week, Saints head coach Darren Rizzi expressed some hope Derek Carr could return this week when the Saints face the team Carr spent the first nine years of his career before finally being cut and signing with the Saints.
Rizzi said Carr was working hard to try and get back on the field to face the Raiders. As you can understand considering it would be his first — and possibly only — chance to face the team he once swore he would play for only them before screwing them over on a trade and forcing them to cut him instead.
Derek Carr injury update
Carr didn’t show enough to prove he was healthy enough to go. He missed practice all week and has officially been ruled OUT on the Saints injury report.
How long will Derek Carr be out?
Initially when Carr broke his hand, it was assumed to be a season-ending injury. The idea that he might return came up this week with his former team coming to town. I would expect that with just one more game, he will indeed not return this season.
Saints QB depth chart
Rookie Spencer Rattler is expected to again start in Carr’s place. Jake Haener is also in the mix, especially after the Saints were shut out Monday night against the Packers.
